Horace William Shaler Cleveland

There is so much to know and understand about this man who has had an important influence on how we think about our relationships to the land and each other.

And, best of all, Cleveland found himself in and around some very intriguing tales. Near greatness: a title I considered. These pages will not quite be “of shoes and ships and sealing wax”, but surprisingly close. There will definitely be “cabbages and kings” and the seas may not be boiling, but certainly roiling. Our pigs may not have wings, but ideas mystifying and magical will fly by. We’ll touch on the horticultural, perpendicular, puritanical, and pomological; the political, poetical, heretical and medical, literally and littorally.
